President Samuelson, Sharon Samuelson at BYU devotional Sept. 8

Brigham Young University President Cecil O. Samuelson and his wife Sharon will officially welcome students back to a new academic year during their regular back-to-school campus devotional Tuesday, Sept. 8, at 11:05 a.m. in the Marriott Center.

President Samuelson's talk is titled “Your Future,” and Sharon Samuelson will discuss “The Iron Rod, the Word of God.”

The BYU Broadcasting channels will air the devotional live. Rebroadcast and archive information is available at byub.org/devotionals or speeches.byu.edu.

President Samuelson began his work as the 12th president of BYU May 1, 2003. At the time of his assignment to BYU, he was a member of the Presidency of the Seventy. He has been a General Authority of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints since 1994.

Prior to holding these positions, President Samuelson worked as a professor of medicine and dean of the School of Medicine at the University of Utah and was senior vice president of Intermountain Healthcare.

He has a bachelor of science degree, a master's degree in educational psychology and a medical degree from the University of Utah.

Sharon Giauque Samuelson graduated from the University of Utah with honors in history. She has held leadership positions in all of the auxiliary organizations of the Church while being active in the community.

BYU completes first-ever campus-wide sustainability assessment, earns distinction

BYU has been recognized as a STARS Gold Institution by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE). The sustainability report from AASHE considers BYU’s commitment to sustainability in academics, student and public engagement, operations, planning and administration, as well as its unique approach to earthly stewardship. BYU is one of only 140 institutions in the country to have been awarded a gold rating by AASHE.
