Post-war efforts to prevent future war topic of BYU lecture

Andrew John Williams, a professor of international relations at the University of Kent at Canterbury, will speak Wednesday, April 2, at the International Forum Series at Brigham Young University.

Williams' lecture is titled "The Victors and the Vanquished: Liberal Dilemmas and the Ending of Wars," and will begin at noon in 238 Herald R. Clark Building. The lecture will also be webcast at http://kennedy.byu.edu/INTForum.

His lecture is based on a study of the different strategies liberal democratic regimes employ after wars to try to prevent future wars.

In 1998, The United Nations Institute for Training and Research named Williams an honorary Senior Special Fellow. He is a Senior Lecturer and Reader at UKC.

Williams earned a doctorate in sciences and politics from the University of Geneva in 1985. He also received a Post Graduate Certificate of Education from Madeley College in 1975.

While living in Geneva, Williams helped to set up the Centre for Applied Studies in International Negotiations. The centre helped bring together officials from the United Nations, multinational companies and academia to propose policy solutions to matters of international importance.

The International Forum Series at The David M. Kennedy Center for International Studies provides prominent speakers who prepare students for practical experience and career opportunities. Information on upcoming speeches can be found on the center's online calendar at .
