Popular BYU Winter Choirfest Feb. 6-7

The Brigham Young University School of Music presents the Concert Choir, BYU Singers and Men’s Chorus in “The Rune of Hospitality” during Winter Choirfest Friday, Feb. 6 and Saturday, Feb. 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall.

Tickets at $9 with $3 off with a BYU or student ID are available through the Fine Arts Ticket Office, (801) 378-4322 or at www.byu.edu/hfac.

The Concert Choir, conducted by Rosalind Hall, will perform “Alélouya” by Emile Desamours and “Caelos ascendit hodie” from “Five Latin Motets” by Michael Waldenby.

The BYU Singers, conducted by Ronald Staheli and assisted by graduate student Jill Winters, will perform three Scottish songs including “My Heart’s in the Highlands,” “I Know Where I’m Going” and “I'll Ay Call in by Yon Town.”

The Men’s Chorus, also conducted by Rosalind Hall, will perform “A Mighty Fortress” arranged by William Heyne, “Thou Art God” by Lionel Bourne, “Sea Fever” by Amy Beach, “Red River Valley” arranged by Miles Ramsay and “Fight the Good Fight” by John Gardner.

The performance will also include “’Tis Winter Now” by Paul Halley and “Snowflakes” by Lane Johnson.

BYU’s space ace: Minor planet named in honor of Jani Radebaugh

BYU planetary geology professor Jani Radebaugh’s contributions to planetary science have reached cosmic proportions as she recently received the prestigious honor of having a minor planet named her. The asteroid, previously known as “45690,” now bears the name “45690janiradebaugh” on official NASA/JPL websites.
