Popular BYU Men's Chorus plans concerts April 7-8

The Brigham Young University Men’s Chorus, conducted by Rosalind Hall, will perform its final concert of the school year Friday and Saturday, April 7-8, at 7:30 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall.

Tickets are $9 or $6 with a BYU or student ID. To purchase tickets, call the Fine Arts Ticket Office at (801) 422-4322 or visit performances.byu.edu.

The Men’s Chorus will perform “A Mighty Fortress” attributed to Martin Luther and arranged by William Heyne, “Fight the Good Fight” by John Gardner and “Sing Out My Soul” by Mark Hayes, as well as “Three Sacred Texts,” including “Notre Père” by Frank Martin, “Gloria” by William Mathias and “Isaiah 44:3” by Jackson Berkey.

The concert will also include two heroic poems and a meditation, Joseph Martin’s “The Quest Unending,” Lane Johnson’s “The Fountain” and Ronald Staheli’s “A Psalm of Life.”

The Men’s Chorus will also sing songs from around the world, including the Lapland Chant “Dalvi duoddar luohti” by Seppo Paakunainen, the Japanese “Whale Festival” by Osama Shimizu, the Jamaican “Jump Down, Spin Around” by Larry Nickel and the English “The Goslings” arranged by Rosalind Hall.

Founded in 1958 by Ralph Woodward, BYU’s Men’s Chorus performs a repertoire for men’s voices of all time periods, as well as folksongs, spirituals and novelty pieces.

Green-thumb dynasty: BYU landscaping wins fifth national championship in six years

For the fifth time in six years, BYU students dug, pruned and planted their way to the National Collegiate Landscaping Competition title, the March Madness of college landscaping teams. BYU bested 50 other universities in the four-day event, outscoring the second-place finisher by more than 358 points and breaking the 5000-point total for the first time in the 48-year history of the tournament.
