Poet Leslie Norris featured at BYU humanities forum

Leslie Norris, an internationally known poet and former professor of English at Brigham Young University, will speak at the College of Humanities Forum Thursday, March 20, at 11 a.m. in 2084 Jesse Knight Humanities Building.

Norris' lecture, titled, Poets and People, will draw on his experiences in writing poetry. A reception will follow the lecture from noon to 12:30 p.m. in 2044 JKHB.

His lecture will address how the personal lives of writers and poets affect their writing, said David Paxman, associate dean of the College of Humanities.

Norris, who retires this year, was educated at Coventry College and the University of Southampton in the United Kingdom. He started teaching at BYU in 1983 and has taught courses in English romantic literature and creative writing.

He has been the Theodore Roethke visiting poet at the University of Washington and the visiting poet at Eton College. Norris is also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature and a Fellow of the Welsh Academy.

His works include 12 collections of poetry and two collections of short fiction, critical biography and literary criticism.
