Parody of popular TV commercial makes BYU library promo go viral

CNN calls it one of the best viral videos of 2010

This hilarious parody of a popular Old Spice commercial serves as a must-see promotional video for BYU’s Harold B. Lee Library (HBLL). The video logged more than 2 million views on YouTube in 2010 and was featured by CNN as one of the best viral videos of 2010.

It grew so popular that it was aired during CNN's American Morning and CBS Evening News with Katie Couric.

The HBLL’s student-driven Multimedia Production Unit, led by Mike Hill and Christopher Garcia, shot the promo in one day last month and posted the final product online Thursday, July 15. Within hours, comments came in from all over the country – and even a few from around the globe. Trust us, you’ll want to watch it more than once.

The HBLL Multimedia Production Unit is comprised of 10 students from different university disciplines and talents. Projects start as ideas discussed in student-driven creative meetings and are then brought to fruition by those same students. This video was concocted May 27th, discussed with student (and starring actor) Stephen Jones June 1, and shot in nine hours on June 12th.

(See more HBLL Multimedia Production Unit videos here.)

Jones, a senior studying psychology, is the president of Humor U, BYU’s stand-up comedy club which is sponsored by BYUSA, BYU's student service association.
