Parents' Weekend keeps parents and students busy

The cheer squad of 1975 will dust off and, in some cases, squeeze into their old uniforms to lead the student body in a spirited pep rally before the BYU/UNLV football game Friday (Oct. 8).

It's part of Parents' Weekend, a three-day event that invites parents of BYU students to share the campus experience (including tests) with their sons and daughters.

Joining the cheerleaders from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday will be the Break Dance Club and Cosmo. This free party will be in Lee Lane, near the Wilkinson Student Center, and participants will have a chance to win BYU apparel and prizes. Parents and students will help dunk the UNLV Runnin' Rebels mascot at the rally, and then follow Cosmo to LaVell Edwards stadium for the 8 p.m. game.

Dinner with President Cecil O. Samuelson, vice presidents and college deans is also on the Parents' Weekend agenda, which follows:

Friday, Oct. 8

8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Testing 1,2,3. Parents are invited to check their general education knowledge with a few short tests. Patterned after the Testing Center, all tests will be graded and results mailed to the parents' students.

9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Campus Tours. Call Guest Relations at 422-4678

9:30 to 11 a.m.

"Art of the Ancient Mediterranean World," an exhibition of Egyptian, Greek and Roman art and artifacts.

1 to 4 p.m.

BYU Behind the Scenes. The inside tour this year will feature BYU football legend Robbie Bosco and three-time Super Bowl winner Tom Holmoe, who will direct tours of the newly completed student athletic center. Also planned are visits to the production stages of KBYU and the Theatre and Media Arts Department, Harold B. Lee Library Special Collections and FARMS.

5-6:30 p.m.

Pre-game dinner with President Samuelson, vice presidents and college deans. Entertainment provided by the BYU cheerleaders, the Cougar Marching Band, Cosmo and Vocal Point, BYU's male a cappella ensemble.

6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Pep Rally at Lee Lane, near the Wilkinson Student Center.

8 p.m.

Football: BYU vs. UNLV

Saturday, Oct. 9

9 to 11 a.m.

Family 5K run or walk.

1 to 3 p.m.
