Panoramic Steel, Percussion Ensemble in concert Nov. 14

The Brigham Young University School of Music presents Panoramic Steel and Percussion Ensemble in concert Friday, Nov. 14, at 7:30 p.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall.

Tickets at $9 and $3 off with a BYU or student ID are available through the Fine Arts Ticket Office, (801) 378-4322 or at www.byu.edu/hfac.

The concert, directed by Ron Brough, will feature a marimba concerto with Kevin Meyer as the marimba soloist.

It will also feature a timpani concerto and festival calypso arrangements on steel pans with Darren Bastian as the timpani soloist.

Brough said the concert--which features music from Brazil, a transcription of a Debussy piece and a panorama-style tune from Trinidad--will be exciting to listen to.

"It's a visual feast as well as an aural feast," Brough said. "The fact that you get to see it performed helps one identify a sight with a sound."

Members of the Percussion Ensemble include Darren Bastian, Kandis Bender, Celeste Cope, Breanne Jesse, Jordan Johnsen, Ryan Liddell, Kevin Meyer and Mike Perry.

Members of the Panoramic Steel Ensemble include Kandis Bender, Ben Bolin, Jeff Butler, Steven Clayton, Tim Fellow, Whitney Heller, Breanne Jesse, Margaret Maurice, Steven Maxfield, Dave Newlin, Mike Perry, Jason Standring, Aaron Stewart, Jayme Wagner and David Zimmerman.
