ORCA offers poster-making, grant-writing workshops Sept. 26-29

Brigham Young University’s Office of Research and Creative Activities (ORCA) offers $1,500 grants to help undergraduate students team up with a faculty mentor. Students may either design their own project or work on a professor’s ongoing research.

To help students with their applications, ORCA is hosting several events:

  1. There will be a student poster session Sept. 26-27 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and noon to 2 p.m. This will be a poster session with select students from last year’s pool of ORCA awardees who’ve had successful projects. They will be displaying their projects and will be there to talk with other students about their mentored research experience firsthand.  This is geared towards prospective ORCA applicants, but all students are encouraged to come and see what sort of creative work is taking place around campus.  This event will be held at booths surrounding the WSC Terrace.
  2. Proposal writing workshops will take place in the Varsity Theater Sept. 28-29 at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. This is a free workshop for undergraduate students interested in applying for an ORCA grant.  In order to register, students need to email byu_mentoring@byu.edu and indicate which session they would like to attend.  There will be time for questions and answers after the instruction.  Content presented at all four workshops will be the same.

Student ORCA applications are due online by midnight Oct. 28.  For more information, visit orca.byu.edu.
