“Old Nauvoo Dance Night” Feb. 22 at BYU gallery

The Education in Zion Gallery at Brigham Young University will host its February date night, “Old Nauvoo Dance Night,” Friday, Feb. 22, at 7 p.m. on the main floor of the gallery.

“’Old Nauvoo Dance Night’ will be a unique experience,” gallery educator Rebecca Soelberg said. “Guests will have fun learning dances from the Nauvoo era and be able to feel connected to the Saints there.”

Colleen West, instructor in the BYU Dance Department, will teach dances typical of the 1830s and 1840s, when the member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints lived in Nauvoo. This event is open to the public and dress will be casual. Refreshments will be provided.

“This is a type of dance where people are able to interact with each other and socialize,” West said. “You don’t have to be a trained dancer to participate. This dance night will be way to have fun, to enjoy one another’s company and to get a little bit of exercise.”

The Education in Zion Gallery is located in the Joseph F. Smith Building. The gallery documents the rich history and heritage of education in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Monday and Wednesday nights the gallery stays open until 9 p.m. Saturday hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
