Rachel Swarns, a correspondent for The New York Times, will present “The U.S. Immigration Debate: Local Issues and Global Implications” on Thursday, Sept. 21, at 2 p.m. in the Wilkinson Student Center Varsity Theater at Brigham Young University.
Swarns became a Washington correspondent for the Times in March 2003. She had been the Times bureau chief in Johannesburg since September 1999, and she has served on the metro desk in New York City since 1997.
She has also worked a general assignment reporter covering courts, business, education, arts in the Bronx, the aftermath of the TWA Flight 800 crash and stints on the 1996 presidential campaign.
