Nearly 100 young ballroom dancers to perform at BYU Dec. 9

Featuring nearly 100 dancers, the Brigham Young University Youth Ballroom Dance Company will present two concerts Thursday, Dec. 9 at 6 and 8 p.m. in the Pardoe Theatre.

Tickets are $3 per show or $5 for both shows. Tickets are available at the Fine Arts Ticket Office at (801) 378-4322.

The annual show features aspiring ballroom dancers ages 10 to 18 years old from all over Utah.

The concert gives the dancers an opportunity to perform and prepare for the U.S. Dancesport Championships held in March at BYU.

The youth ballroom dance program give dancers an opportunity to practice and perform in an enriching environment.

"It provides a good, wholesome and uplifting environment for the kids to refine their talents," said Sharon Holman, BYU Youth Ballroom Dance Company director. "It is a wholesome activity for kids to participate in at such a young age."

Many members of the BYU Ballroom Dance Company received their training from the BYU-run youth program.

Students in the BYU Youth Ballroom Dance Company practice two to four hours a week depending on what age group they are in. Each age group participates in two ballroom dance competitions a year.

For more information contact Sharon Holman at (801) 422-4623.
