National League for Nursing honors BYU professor

The National League for Nursing has presented Brigham Young University professor Lynn Clark Callister with its Excellence in Teaching Award, Callister’s third national recognition this year.

Callister received the award in honor of her contributions as an outstanding nurse educator who fosters excellence in the teaching-learning process.

This award marks the third national recognition Callister received this year alone. In April, she was appointed to the International Advisory Council of the Fulbright Academy of Science and Technology. In June, the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric, and Neonatal Nursing presented her with the Distinguished Professional Service Award. Also this year, Callister received the Sigma Theta Tau International Excellence in Research Award for her dedicated research of childbirth in various cultures.

In 20 years of teaching at BYU, Callister has mentored dozens of students and cherishes the experience of sharing her knowledge and passion for nursing with them.

Robin Kartchner, one of Callister’s former students, remarked, “Dr. Callister has been a consistent source of guidance, expertise, encouragement and inspiration. Besides being a mentor through the maze of academe, Dr. Callister also became a ‘mentor for life.’ She is an example both intellectually and spiritually of the kind of person I want to be. My university experience was enriched by my association with her.”For more information, contact the College of Nursing at (801) 422-2192.
