Nancy Wentworth new associate dean in McKay School of Education

Dean K. Richard Young of Brigham Young University’s David O. McKay School of Education announced the appointment of Nancy Wentworth as the new associate dean over teacher education.

Wentworth, a professor of teacher education, replaces Marie Tuttle who has served in the position for more than nine years. Dr. Tuttle will return to the teaching and supervision in the Department of Teacher Education.

“Nancy Wentworth is an exceptional scholar, administrator and person,” said Dean Young. “She will serve the School of Education with exceptional skill and dedication.”

As part of her responsibilities, Wentworth will administer the school’s accreditation process, student teaching and other practicum experiences, and will represent the School of Education within the BYU Educator Preparation Program.

After completing a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and a master’s degree in education at the University of Utah in the 1970s, Wentworth returned to the university and completed a doctorate in 1993 in educational studies emphasizing mathematics and computer instruction.

After spending almost ten years in public schools, she began teaching at BYU in 1992 as an assistant professor. She is now a full professor and has been the associate chair in the Department of Teacher Education.

Wentworth’s research interests include the integration of technology into both teacher education courses and into K-12 mathematics, as well as the science of learning inquiry and technology. She is widely published in her professional field.
