Music of Bunita Marcus featured at BYU recital Feb. 15

Group for New Music, Brigham Young University’s experimental music group, will be featured in at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 15, in the Maeser Auditorium on the south end of campus. Admission is free.

This concert will feature the works of Bunita Marcus, a visiting composer-in-residence at BYU.

Marcus’ seminars explore the variety of energies at work in music and look at new ways to use pitch. She has more than ten years of experience with intonation, using her voice to unblock energies in the body. She has worked with a number of healers toward this goal, most notably the last two and a half years of study of Nada Yoga (vocal techniques that work directly with chakras and meridians in the body) with Sri Shyamji Bhatnagar.

Her music has received awards from the National Endowment for the Arts, the International Society for Contemporary Music, the League of Composers' National Competition, the New York State Council on the Arts and the Kranichsteiner Musikpreis at Darmstadt.
