Museum of Art needs volunteers for upcoming Carl Bloch exhibit

The Brigham Young University Museum of Art needs volunteers to help with a special exhibition, “Carl Heinrich Bloch: The Master’s Hand,” which will be on view at the museum from Nov. 12, 2010 through May 7, 2011.

Those interested in volunteering will need to attend two training sessions at the Museum of Art to learn about the exhibition and the specific duties they will perform. Evening sessions will be held Tuesday, Oct. 19, and Tuesday, Oct. 26, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the museum auditorium. Daytime sessions will be held Tuesday, Oct. 19, and Tuesday, Oct. 26, from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the museum lecture room.

Volunteers will be expected to work between 3 to 6 hours per week for the duration of the exhibition. As volunteers accumulate service hours, they will be eligible to receive special discounts at the Museum of Art Store and other gifts.

“This is a unique opportunity to be a part of an inspiring visual experience,” said Museum of Art Head Curator Cheryll May.

“Carl Heinrich Bloch: The Master’s Hand” is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience the artwork of Carl Bloch whose paintings of the Savior are often used by Christians around the world. This exhibition features five large altar paintings on the life Jesus Christ created by Bloch for Lutheran churches in Denmark and Sweden. It will also include other religious works, as well as portraits, landscapes, genre and history paintings from Denmark's museums.
