Museum of Art issues call for papers for Nov. 16 symposium

On topic of "Pious Pictures: Christian Iconography and Personal Expression in the Production of Faith-Based Art"

The Museum of Art is now accepting proposals for papers about the creation of faith-based visual arts for its next Art, Belief, Meaning Symposium, "Pious Pictures: Christian Iconography and Personal Expression in the Production of Faith-Based Art," to be held Nov. 16 in the museum auditorium.

Proposals must be postmarked by Sept. 30 and should be mailed to Herman du Toit, BYU Museum of Art, Provo, UT 84602, or e-mailed as an attachment to herman_dutoit@byu.edu.

Proposals should contain the following information: name, title of presentation, a program description of no more than 30 words, title or designation and contact information. The description of the presentation should not exceed 150 words, and the actual presentation should last 25 minutes.

The symposium will occur in conjunction with the exhibition, "Beholding Salvation: Images of Christ," which also opens in November. David Morgan, the Phyllis and Richard Duesenberg Professor in Christianity and the Arts at Valparaiso University, will be a featured speaker at the symposium.

BYU’s space ace: Minor planet named in honor of Jani Radebaugh

BYU planetary geology professor Jani Radebaugh’s contributions to planetary science have reached cosmic proportions as she recently received the prestigious honor of having a minor planet named her. The asteroid, previously known as “45690,” now bears the name “45690janiradebaugh” on official NASA/JPL websites.
