Michael D. Barnes to be BYU devotional speaker July 1

Michael D. Barnes, a Brigham Young University professor of public health education, will speak at a campus devotional on Tuesday, July 1, at 11:05 a.m. in the Joseph Smith Building Auditorium.

The devotional will be presented live on BYU Television, KBYU TV, KBYU FM and byubroadcasting.org. For rebroadcast information, visit byubroadcasting.org.

As a nationally Certified Health Education Specialist since 1992, Barnes has spent 16 years serving as a community organizer, health educator and public health researcher. He has worked at BYU since 1997 and currently directs the Master of Public Health Program.

Prior to coming to BYU, Barnes worked as an assistant professor at New Mexico State University. He has also been involved with professional leadership and service with the Society of Public Health Education, the American Association for Health Education and the Utah Department of Health.

Barnes received a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in health promotion at BYU and a doctorate in public health education at Southern Illinois University.
