Mary Farahnakian to deliver Alice Louise Reynolds Lecture March 14

Mary Farahnakian, a professor of design and technology in the Theatre and Media Arts Department at Brigham Young University, will present this year’s Harold B. Lee Library’s annual Alice Louise Reynolds Women-in-Scholarship Lecture.

The lecture, titled “Let Your Star Shine,” will be Thursday, March 14, at 2 p.m. in the library auditorium. Admission is free and the public is welcome to attend.

Farahnakian teaches history of costume, costume specialty and costume design and construction at BYU. She is also the curator of the BYU/TMA Historic Clothing Collection. A native of Iran, she studied theatre and film at the University of Tehran where she graduated as valedictorian.

During her college years Farahnakian became known as a professional actress, acting on stage and on the National Television of Iran. In 1972 she was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship, and later she came to the United States where she earned her doctorate from BYU.

The Alice Louise Reynolds Women-in-Scholarship Lecture was established to honor Alice Louise Reynolds, who served on the committee that provided the beginnings of the Harold B. Lee Library. She devoted many years to the realization of her dream for a large, comprehensive university research library at BYU. The effects of her unselfish service are still felt at the Harold B. Lee Library and at BYU.
