Marilyn Chandler McEntyre at BYU forum Jan. 23

“The Beholding Eye: Reflections in Poetry on the Art of Vermeer, Rembrandt and Van Gogh” will be the topic of a Brigham Young University forum featuring Marilyn Chandler McEntyre, professor of English at Westmont College in Santa Barbara, Calif., Tuesday, Jan. 23, at 11:05 a.m. in the Marriott Center.

The forum will be broadcast live on KBYU-TV (Channel 11), BYU Television, KBYU-FM (89.1), BYU Radio and byubroadcasting.org.

An award-winning professor and author, McEntyre earned a bachelor’s degree from Pomona College, a master’s degree from the University of California-Davis and a doctorate in comparative literature from Princeton University. Before coming to Westmont College, she taught literature at Mills College and the College of New Jersey.

An accomplished writer, McEntyre’s latest works include “In Quiet Light: Poems on Vermeer’s Women” and “Approaches to Teaching Literature and Medicine.” She is working on a volume about Rembrandt’s paintings and is editing a series of essays for the University of California Press to be titled, “Why Read Chaucer at a Time Like This?”

McEntyre’s honors include the Teacher of the Year Award at Westmont College and the Phi Beta Kappa of Northern California Outstanding Teaching Award, among others. She has also won fellowships from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the American Council of Learned Societies and has held an endowed chair in American literature.

BYU study finds the real reasons why some people choose not to use artificial intelligence

In a recent study, BYU professors Jacob Steffen and Taylor Wells explored why some people are still reluctant to use GenAI tools. While some people might worry about an AI apocalypse, Steffen and Wells found that most non-users are more concerned with issues like trusting the results, missing the human touch or feeling unsure if GenAI is ethical to use.
