Marilyn Bateman honored at BYU Women luncheon April 12

Marilyn Bateman, wife of Brigham Young University President Merrill J. Bateman, will become an honorary member of BYU Women at a luncheon in the Skyroom of Brigham Young University's Wilkinson Student Center at 11 a.m. on Saturday (April 12).

Marilyn Bateman was chosen as an honorary member because of her significant service to BYU, according to Katherine Rosenvall, BYU Women president.

She became BYU's first lady in January 1996, and she and her husband will be accepting a new assignment beginning May 1.

At the luncheon, David Warner, director of music and performing arts for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, will speak about the recent Church production, "Savior of the World," and bring cast members to perform.

For more information or to make a reservation for the luncheon, contact Rosenvall at (801) 377-2461 or visit www.byu.edu/byuwomen.

The luncheon also marks the changing of the presidency for BYU Women. New officers are Marilyn Barrus, president; Gayle Farnsworth, first vice-president, and Sylvia Hafen, second vice-president.

Outgoing officers are Katherine Rosenvall, president; Marilyn Barrus, first vice-president; Carolyn Wright, second vice-president, and secretary, Diana Graham.

Former BYU President George H. Brimhall founded BYU Women in 1914 by calling five women to provide a more consistent social support to the faculty. It grew throughout the century and now boasts a potential membership of 4,700 women.

The organization is open to all full-time BYU female faculty, staff and spouses of full-time faculty. Annual dues are $10.
