"Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse" comes to life in BYU children's theatre production Feb. 2-12

The Young Company's Theatre for Young Audiences brings Kevin Henkes' children's book "Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse" to life Feb. 2-12, at 7:30 p.m. in the Nelke Theatre at Brigham Young University.

Shows run Tuesdays through Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. Matinees will be performed Saturday, Feb. 5 and Feb. 12 at 2 p.m. Previews are Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 2 and 3. Members of the audience are welcome to meet the company on Thursday, Feb. 3 and 10.

Tickets are $9 with $3 off with BYU or student ID. For tickets, call the Fine Arts Ticket Office at (801) 378-4322 or visit performances.byu.edu.

Lilly, a loveable young mouse, can't wait to show off her new musical purse and sparkly glasses. Her excitement overcomes her and, despite Mr. Slinger's repeated warnings, she interrupts his class to show off her new accessories.

Whether professing herself "Queen of the World," attempting to teach her baby brother Julius the alphabet in entirely the wrong order or wreaking havoc in the classroom, Lilly lives life to the fullest.

Lilly likes to dance her way through life, learning lessons about friendship, family and forgiveness along the way.

"So even with all of the playing, there is learning. Simple childhood lessons such as sharing, taking turns, waiting patiently, playing pretend, being nice, cooperating and wearing a happy face quickly turn into adult lessons of compassion, forgiveness, imagination, empathy, optimism and friendship," said director Shawnda Moss.

Members of the cast include Rachel Andes, Jason Langlois, Lindsey Knudson, Leah Stallard, Jeffrey Murphy, Arisael Rivera, Jaida Brown, Amanda Pilmer and Summer Brown.

Members of the production staff include Tarythe Barclay, production stage manager Chareen Hardy, costume designer Lois Beck Ewing, lighting designer Katie Renville and scenic designer Susan Jaussi.
