Lee Library offers services to convert outdated media to modern formats

Services converting outdated media to more modern formats are available at the Harold B. Lee Library on the Brigham Young University campus.

Outdated media such as cassette tapes, videotapes, vinyl records and reel-to-reels can be formatted into CDs and DVDs as well as MP3 and MPEG files.

Cynthia Frazier, consultant coordinator in the library's information commons, said the service is not widely known around campus, but can be helpful for those who want to preserve irreplaceable old recordings such as home movies.

The service is becoming increasingly useful as functioning equipment for the outdated media becomes scarcer.

Multimedia consultants in the Lee Library can instruct patrons on how to use the equipment to convert their own media, or customers can pay an inexpensive fee to have the work done for them. Consultants also repair audio and videotapes and scratched CDs.

For more information on this service, contact the consultants in the Lee Library at (801) 422-9192, or go online to the library's Web site at www.library.byu.edu.
