Lee Library introduces Library Services Portal for Independent Study students

Students enrolled in Brigham Young University Independent Study courses can now access a one-stop Web connection to resources at the Harold B. Lee Library.

The “Library Services Portal” has helped English course students during past semesters of testing and is now available in other course subjects, including accounting, communications, civil engineering and exercise science.

This library service provides resources such as research guides, full-text journal articles, research tips and tools, a writer’s toolbox, a link to the library’s online catalog and a delivery service for books and articles, as well as the contact information for a subject librarian.

“Students can access Library Services through the portal at their own convenience, anytime day or night,” said Allyson Washburn, distributed learning services librarian.

The library, the Department of Independent Study and the Center for Instructional Design created the portal with funding from the American Library Association and the SIRSI Corporation.

As new Independent Study courses are written or revised by an instructor, a portal is created, so more Independent Study classes with portals will soon be accessible online.

For more information about how the “Library Services Portal” can help BYU students and faculty, please contact Mike Hooper at (801) 422-2675.

BYU professors using game-changing strategies to prevent injuries, promote wellbeing in youth athletes

May 07, 2024
BYU professor Matt Seeley created the Strong Youth Project after watching all five of his children participate in youth sports. While he loves the many invaluable benefits of youth sports, he laments that his children often miss family activities for practice or face pressures to compete in sports during the offseason. These concerns have fueled his collaboration with professors from disciplines across BYU’s campus to improve organized sport experiences for youth, parents and coaches.
