LDS International Society plans annual conference at BYU April 4

Brigham Young University will host the 22nd Annual Conference of the LDS International Society, “The Erosion of Religious Liberties: Impact on the International Church,” Monday, April 4, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Gordon B. Hinckley Alumni and Visitors Center.

Organized in 1989, the LDS International Society is an association of professionals with international interests who are members or friends of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The society is supported by BYU's David M. Kennedy Center for International Studies, the Marriott School of Management, the J. Reuben Clark Law School, the David O. McKay School of Education and the BYU Alumni Association.

This conference is open to the public, and the schedule is as follows

8:30 a.m. —  Welcome, President Cecil O. Samuelson.                     
9 a.m. — Keynote Address, “Erosion of Religious Freedom: Impact on Churches” featuring Michael K. Young, president and chancellor, University of Utah. 
10 a.m. — “2011 Distinguished Service Award” presented to  Michael K. Young by William Atkin, International Society board member and associate general counsel for the Church.
11  a.m. — “Corporate Social Responsibility: Marshaling the Business Community in Defending Religious Freedoms” moderated by Gregory G. Clark, attorney, Kirton & McConkie and featuring
BYU's W. Cole Durham, Jr., founder and director, International Center for Law and Religious Studies; Robert T. Smith, managing director, International Center for Law and Religious Studies; and Paul C. Godfrey, professor of strategy, Marriott School of Management.
Noon — Luncheon, Hinckley Alumni and Visitors Center.
1:30 p.m. — “Global Challenges Facing Religious Freedom," John Graz, secretary general, International Religious Liberty Association.
3 p.m. — “Religious Liberty Initiatives: Preserving the ‘First Freedom’ at Home and Abroad” featuring John M. Smith, counsel, Raytheon Company; and Hannah Clayson Smith, senior counsel, The Becket Fund for Religious Liberty.

Green-thumb dynasty: BYU landscaping wins fifth national championship in six years

For the fifth time in six years, BYU students dug, pruned and planted their way to the National Collegiate Landscaping Competition title, the March Madness of college landscaping teams. BYU bested 50 other universities in the four-day event, outscoring the second-place finisher by more than 358 points and breaking the 5000-point total for the first time in the 48-year history of the tournament.
