LDS Church in Indonesia topic for BYU House of Learning lecture Sept. 27

Brigham Young University geography professor Chad Emmett will present “Taking Root: The Growth of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Indonesia” at a House of Learning Lecture in the Harold B. Lee Library Auditorium Thursday, Sept. 27, at 2 p.m.

The lecture is free and the public is welcome to attend. A question-and-answer session will follow the presentation.

Emmett received his bachelor’s degree in secondary education from Utah State University, his master’s degree in international relations from BYU and his doctorate in geography from the University of Chicago. He has taught at BYU since 1992 and received a BYU Alcuin Fellowship in 1999.

His research includes political influences regarding the spread of Christianity in Indonesia, a history of the LDS Church in Indonesia and the status of Christians in the Islamic world.

BYU study finds the real reasons why some people choose not to use artificial intelligence

In a recent study, BYU professors Jacob Steffen and Taylor Wells explored why some people are still reluctant to use GenAI tools. While some people might worry about an AI apocalypse, Steffen and Wells found that most non-users are more concerned with issues like trusting the results, missing the human touch or feeling unsure if GenAI is ethical to use.
