Kennedy Center sponsors student essay contest

Entry deadline Oct. 22

The David M. Kennedy Center for International Studies at Brigham Young University in conjunction with International Education Week Nov. 15-19 will sponsor its second annual student essay contest.

All full-time BYU students may participate in the contest. The deadline for entry submission is Friday, Oct. 22, at noon.

The competition is designed to promote BYU students' understanding of and appreciation for the current global issues.

"BYU has a student body with broad international experience whose academic goals are influenced by that experience," says Jeff Ringer, Kennedy Center director. "The essay contest is an outlet for students to express and receive recognition for their global awareness."

The top three essays will receive cash awards. Each essay will be critiqued and faculty coordinators will choose the top three essays. First place will receive $500 and the other two will each win $250. Winners will also present a summary of their essays in a public forum at the Kennedy Center during International Education Week.

Information on rules and guidelines as well as an on-line application may be accessed at kennedy.byu.edu/publications/essay or from Kennedy Center Publications at 210 Herald R. Clark Building.
