Keith Kirchoff plays electro-acoustic music at BYU guest recital March 5

Composer-pianist Keith Kirchoff will present a program of electro-acoustic music for the piano Friday, March 5, at 7:30 p.m., in Brigham Young University's Madsen Recital Hall. He will be accompanied by BYU faculty member Steve Ricks.

This recital will be presented in a casual lecture/recital format. Admission is free. The concert will open with “Servicio a Domicilio” by Roberto Morales-Manzanares and continue with Christopher Jette’s “In Vitro Oink” for piano, Wii remote and electronics. The program also features a duet for piano, the wildly virtuosic “Rip” by Allen Strange and Kirchoff’s own “The Adventures of Norby.”

Kirchoff has played in many of the United States' largest cities, as well as major cities throughout Italy, Canada, Great Britain and The Netherlands. With his unique lecture style integrated into his programs, Kirchoff strives to enhance the status of classical music in American culture. He has premiered more than 100 new works and commissioned more than a dozen compositions.

He has won numerous awards including the 2006 Steinway Society Piano Competition, the 2005 John Cage Award, the Silver Lake International Piano Concerto Competition and the Saint Paul Piano Teachers Association Competition, among others.

The concert is sponsored by BYU’s School of Music and The Laycock Center for Creative Collaboration in the Arts.
