KBYU Television, Neways join forces to combat illiteracy

Through Ready to Learn community programs

KBYU Television and Neways International have now joined together to combat illiteracy in Utah with the Ready to Learn service, an outreach program that provides parents, teachers and caregivers in Utah with workshops to promote reading and literacy.

For more than 11 years, KBYU Television--with a little help from PBS--has reached out to communities in Utah with its Ready to Learn service, according to Stephanie Anderson, KBYU coordinator for Ready to Learn. The community service ties into KBYU's on-air programming.

“We’re really excited to have Neways supporting our efforts” said Anderson. “Ready to Learn has affected thousands of children in Utah. With the support of Neways we will be able to continue our efforts in helping children become the best that they can be by encouraging parents to read to them at an early age.”

During 2005, the Ready to Learn service donated more than 4,000 books and conducted 181 workshops and 13 community events to encourage literacy among parents and children.

"Such contributions would be impossible without the aid of community-oriented organizations such as Neways International," said Anderson.

“Neways is proud to support this award-winning program that is trusted across the nation,” said Eric Larsen, Neways CEO. “Ready to Learn and Neways are happy to provide a better choice and a better life for children and parents alike.”
