Juilliard-based American Brass Quintet at BYU Nov. 12

Brigham Young University will host the American Brass Quintet, resident brass quintet at The Juilliard School in New York City, Wednesday, Nov. 12, at 7:30 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall, Harris Fine Arts Center.

On their 49th season tour, the American Brass Quintet will perform “Elizabethan Ayres” by Thomas Morely, “Quinteto Concertante” by Osvaldo Lacerda and “Brass Quintet” by Anders Hillborg.

The program will also include “Entrance” by David Sampson, “Chansons” by Josquin des Prés and “Copperwave” by Joan Tower.

The quintet features Raymond Mase and Kevin Cobb on the trumpet, David Wakefield on the horn, Michael Powell on the trombone and John D. Rojak on the bass trombone.

The American Brass Quintet has performed in Europe, Central and South America, the Middle East, Asia, Australia and all 50 of the United States. Their success includes a discography of more than 50 recordings, the premieres of more than 100 contemporary brass works and miniresidencies teaching young musicians at institutions worldwide.

BYU’s space ace: Minor planet named in honor of Jani Radebaugh

BYU planetary geology professor Jani Radebaugh’s contributions to planetary science have reached cosmic proportions as she recently received the prestigious honor of having a minor planet named her. The asteroid, previously known as “45690,” now bears the name “45690janiradebaugh” on official NASA/JPL websites.
