Jeffrey Shumway will present BYU faculty piano recital Nov. 17

Jeffrey Shumway, head of keyboard studies in Brigham Young University’s School of Music, will present works by Beethoven, Chopin and Rachmaninoff at a piano recital Thursday, Nov. 17, at 7:30 p.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall.

Admission is free and the public is welcome to attend.

Selections will include “Barcarolle,” op. 60, by Frederic Chopin, the Sonata in E-flat Major, op. 7 by Ludwig van Beethoven and “Six Moments Musicaux” by Sergei Rachmaninoff.

Shumway is a member of the internationally renowned American Piano Quartet with whom he has performed and recorded throughout Europe, Canada, the Far East and the United States. He also performs regularly with his American Piano Duo partner Del Parkinson, a faculty member at Boise State University, with whom he has recorded the CD “Celebrating Gershwin.”

Upon graduation from BYU with a bachelor’s degree in music, Shumway received his master’s degree in music from The Juilliard School and his doctorate in music from Indiana University. He has taught piano at BYU since 1985.
