Jeffrey Shumway to present faculty piano recital Nov. 5

The Brigham Young University School of Music presents Jeffrey Shumway in a faculty piano recital Wednesday, Nov. 5, at 7:30 p.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall.

The performance is free and the public is welcome to attend.

Shumway will perform music by Ludwig von Beethoven, three transcriptions by Sergei Rachmaninoff, "Pictures at an Exhibition" by Modest Mussorgsky as well as works by Felix Mendelssohn, Fritz Kreisler and Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakov.

"The music is utterly appealing," Shumway said. "The Beethoven is exciting and beautiful—it's one of the things I'm good at. The Rachmaninoff is a wonderful display of excitement. And this is the original version of 'Pictures at an Exhibition.'"

The recital will also include artwork by Victor Hartmann, whose pictures were the inspiration for the Mussourgsky piece.
