International Study Programs will host Jan. 26 open house

Brigham Young University's International Study Programs will host an open house for students interested in study abroad, international internships, international volunteer work or international field studies programs Thursday, Jan. 26, from 3-6 p.m. in 238 Herald R. Clark Building.

Each department-sponsored program will be represented and former program participants and/or directors will be available to speak to students about specific programs.

"One of our goals is to help students understand how valuable an international educational experience can be," said T. Lynn Elliott, ISP director. "For the vast majority of ISP participants, their international experience has been life-changing, often in unexpected ways. For a dedicated student, an international experience is simply invaluable."

During the 2004-05 academic year,¬¬ ISP sent almost 1,300 students abroad to one of more than 80 programs across the world — from Great Britain and Europe to countries in Africa, and from Asia and the South Pacific to sites throughout Latin America. After this year, ISP will have sent students to every continent, including Antarctica.

Financial aid options are available for qualifying students.

College deans and department chairs interested in adding international study to their academic programs should contact T. Lynn Elliott at (801) 422-6244.

BYU research: Mega wildfires can actually be a good thing

November 04, 2025
BYU professor Sam St. Clair is the principal investigator on the first study to show positive impacts of megafires (fires greater than 100,000 acres) across different forest types. Megafires can help some forest communities thrive — especially in areas where chronic browsing by elk, deer, and livestock has hindered tree regeneration, a widespread issue that often leads to forest regeneration failure.
