International law lecturer at Oxford University to give BYU address Oct. 19

Stefan Talmon, a university lecturer in public international law at Oxford University, will present a Global Awareness Lecture, “The EU as an Actor in International Law,” Wednesday, Oct. 19, at noon in 238 Herald R. Clark Building.

Talmon, who joined Oxford University in 2003, is a tutorial fellow in law at St. Anne’s College and is the course director for public international law in Oxford’s Foreign Service Program.

His wide-ranging legal opinions cover international law, law of the sea, human rights and terrorism.

Talmon’s honors include an award from the German Research Foundation and the German Foreign Office for his habilitation thesis, the Teacher of the Year Award from the Federal State of Baden-Württemberg and a Rhodes scholarship.

He is a member of several professional societies, including the Society of Legal Scholars, German Society of the United Nations, International Law Association and the American Society of International Law.

BYU professors using game-changing strategies to prevent injuries, promote wellbeing in youth athletes

BYU professor Matt Seeley created the Strong Youth Project after watching all five of his children participate in youth sports. While he loves the many invaluable benefits of youth sports, he laments that his children often miss family activities for practice or face pressures to compete in sports during the offseason. These concerns have fueled his collaboration with professors from disciplines across BYU’s campus to improve organized sport experiences for youth, parents and coaches.
