Interim Dean, Associate Deans for Undergraduate Education

Joseph D. Parry, an associate dean in Undergraduate Education and Director of the Honors Program for the past three years, has been asked to serve as the interim Dean for Undergraduate Education. He will also continue to direct the Honors Program. Undergraduate Education includes BYU's General Education Program, the Honors program and the offices of First-Year Experience and National Fellowships, Scholarships and Programs.

Parry is a professor of interdisciplinary humanities in the Department of Comparative Arts and Letters. He joined the faculty of the College of Humanities in 1993, and served as an associate dean in that college from 2005 to 2009. Parry holds a Bachelor and Master of Arts in English from BYU and a Ph.D. in British and American Literature from the University of Utah.

BYU English Professor Deborah Dean will continue serving as associate dean, but will move to overseeing curriculum from general education. Dean came to BYU in 1999 and, in addition to teaching, has served as the associate chair of the English department and the director of the Central Utah Writing Project. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from BYU, a master's degree in education from City University in Bellevue, Wash., and a doctorate from Seattle Pacific University in education.

BYU History Professor Susan S. Rugh has been named as the associate dean for general education. She joined the faculty at BYU in 1997, and has served as associate dean of the College of Family, Home, and Social Sciences, and faculty director of BYU's Washington Seminar. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from BYU, and a Master of Arts and Ph.D. in American history from the University of Chicago.

BYU’s space ace: Minor planet named in honor of Jani Radebaugh

BYU planetary geology professor Jani Radebaugh’s contributions to planetary science have reached cosmic proportions as she recently received the prestigious honor of having a minor planet named her. The asteroid, previously known as “45690,” now bears the name “45690janiradebaugh” on official NASA/JPL websites.
