Home arts specialist to give School of Family Life lecture Nov. 14

Home management and family living specialist Daryl Hoole will share expertise she developed over half a century when she gives the Distinguished Lecture for the Brigham Young University School of Family Life Wednesday, Nov. 14, at 7:30 p.m. in the Assembly Hall of the Gordon B. Hinckley Alumni and Visitors Center.

The free lecture is open to the public. Her topic is “The Home — an Apprentice Shop for Children.

Hoole became familiar to BYU Education Week participants as a speaker at the annual event for four decades. For more than 50 years she taught and wrote extensively on the home arts and was a regular participant in the “Know Your Religion” programs.

Her first of eight books, "The Art of Homemaking," made Deseret Book’s best seller list, and at the time, she was the only woman author and non-General Authority of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to appear on the list.

The book continued to be published for more than 25 years and was featured as part of the Church History Museum’s “Exceptional Women,” an exhibition highlighting contributions from 1830 to today that ranged from the arts to the sciences.

Hoole has served three missions and traveled extensively for the Church, including as a member of the Primary General Board, and taught throughout the United States and in several countries.
