Historic female newspaper editors in Utah topic of BYU lecture April 14

A lecture on historic female newspaper editors in Utah will be held Wednesday, April 14, at 7 p.m. in the Harold B. Lee Library auditorium in conjunction with the Mormon Women Exhibition on the Brigham Young University campus.

Sherilyn Cox Bennion, a professor emerita at Humboldt State University, will discuss "Public and Private: What Their Newspapers Reveal About Utah's Early Women Editors."

The lecture, free and open to the public, is sponsored by the Joseph Fielding Smith Institute for Latter-day Saint History and L. Tom Perry Special Collections in the Lee library.

Bennion will talk about the lives and personalities of the editors analyzing the pages of their publications. The valuable historical information contained in the periodicals will also be discussed. Fourteen women who worked as editors between 1872 and 1900 will be discussed.

The Mormon Women Exhibition is on display through June 4.

Green-thumb dynasty: BYU landscaping wins fifth national championship in six years

For the fifth time in six years, BYU students dug, pruned and planted their way to the National Collegiate Landscaping Competition title, the March Madness of college landscaping teams. BYU bested 50 other universities in the four-day event, outscoring the second-place finisher by more than 358 points and breaking the 5000-point total for the first time in the 48-year history of the tournament.
