Historian to consider “Joseph and Brigham: The Nature of Discipleship” April 12 at BYU

L. Tom Perry Special Collections at Brigham Young University will host Ronald K. Esplin, former director of the Joseph Fielding Smith Institute for Latter-day Saint History, for a lecture Wednesday, April 12, at 3 p.m. in the Harold B. Lee Library auditorium.

Part of the Joseph Smith Exhibit Lecture Series, Esplin will discuss the vital relationship of Joseph Smith and his successor in “Joseph and Brigham: The Nature of Discipleship.”

Admission is free and the public is welcome. A question-and-answer session will accompany the lecture, followed by a reception in Special Collections.

The lecture series accompanies this semester’s exhibition, “Remembering Joseph Smith Jr.: 1805-2005,” on display through May 13 in the library.

Esplin has worked as research historian for the LDS Historical Department, senior research historian and director of the Joseph Fielding Smith, professor in the Department of Church History at BYU and executive editor of the Joseph Smith Papers Project, a multi-volume series under the direction of the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

For more information about the lecture or the exhibition, contact Special Collections at (801) 422-3514 or visit sc.lib.byu.edu.
