Harold B. Lee Library now offering new video database

An educational YouTube? The Harold B. Lee Library at Brigham Young University has recently acquired a new database that may be just that.

The films come from Films Media Group, the leading source of high-quality video and multimedia for academic, vocational and life-skills content. Films Media Group serves the education community through its four brands: Films for the Humanities and Sciences, Cambridge Educational, Meridian Education and Shopware.

“Films On Demand” features more than 8,000 educational films with topics covering a wide variety of disciplines, including anthropology, art and architecture, business and economics, careers, technology, criminal justice, education, environmental science, consumer sciences, counseling, health, music and dance, religion, political and social cience, technical education and English and world languages.

Available titles are equally diverse and colorful, and feature "Nomadic Steppe Riders in Kyrgyzstan," "Quadratic Functions," "The Royal Opera House’s 'Aida,'" "Beowulf," "String Theory," "Textile Manufacturing" and "A TV in the Baby Bottle" (which addresses the impact of children’s programming on babies).

Green-thumb dynasty: BYU landscaping wins fifth national championship in six years

For the fifth time in six years, BYU students dug, pruned and planted their way to the National Collegiate Landscaping Competition title, the March Madness of college landscaping teams. BYU bested 50 other universities in the four-day event, outscoring the second-place finisher by more than 358 points and breaking the 5000-point total for the first time in the 48-year history of the tournament.
