Haitian foreign minister to give BYU lecture April 5

Replaces previously scheduled lecture on March 31

Herard Abraham, foreign minister for the Republic of Haiti, will speak at an Area Focus Lecture on Tuesday, April 5, at 3 p.m. in 238 Herald R. Clark Building at Brigham Young University.

Abraham became the foreign minister in January 2005, having served previously as the country's interior minister.

He was one of three candidates proposed by a "council of sages" brought together to select Haiti's interim prime minister after the resignation of President Jean-Bertrand Aristide. Remarkably, he is the only military leader to have voluntarily relinquished power after what some claim was the cleanest elections in 1990 and peaceful turnover of power when Aristide was elected.
