Global Maternal, Child Health Conference at BYU March 20

The Brigham Young University Colleges of Health and Human Performance and Nursing will host the Global Maternal and Child Health Conference, "Countdown to 2015: Acting Now, Working Together to Improve Mother, Newborn and Child Survival," at the BYU Conference Center Friday, March 20, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:15 p.m.

Following opening remarks by BYU President Cecil O. Samuelson, keynote speaker Socorro Gross-Caliano, assistant director of PAHO/WHO, will discuss "Pan-American Partnership for Nutrition, Health and Development."

Other speakers include Christopher P. Howson, vice president for Global Programs, The March of Dimes Foundation; Indira Narayanan, senior technical advisor, Newborn Health at BASICS/USAID; Stephen Wall, senior newborn health research advisor, Saving Newborn Lives; Jennifer Staple, founder, CEO, and president, Unite For Sight; and Robert B. Clark, president, Children’s Medical Mission.

The conference will include panel discussions and breakout sessions presented by health care professionals. Registration fees are $95 for professionals, $35 for students and $125 for exhibitors. Plenty of free parking is available near the Conference Center, located northeast of the Marriott Center.

BYU’s space ace: Minor planet named in honor of Jani Radebaugh

BYU planetary geology professor Jani Radebaugh’s contributions to planetary science have reached cosmic proportions as she recently received the prestigious honor of having a minor planet named her. The asteroid, previously known as “45690,” now bears the name “45690janiradebaugh” on official NASA/JPL websites.
