Gary R. Hooper, associate academic vice president for research and graduate studies at Brigham Young University, will speak at the devotional Tuesday, April 8, at 11:05 a.m. in the Marriott Center.
The devotional will be broadcast live on KBYU-TV (Channel 11), KBYU-FM (89.1) the BYU-Television and BYU-Radio satellite networks and at broadcasting.byu.edu. It will be rebroadcast on Sunday, April 13, at 8 p.m. on KBYU-FM, and on Sunday, April 20, at 6 and 11 a.m. on KBYU-TV and at 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. on BYU-Television.
Prior to becoming an associate academic vice president, Hooper was the executive director for research and creative activities and a professor of botany at BYU.
In 1968, Hooper received a doctorate in plant pathology from the University of California, Riverside. He has been an associate professor at both Michigan State University and California Polytechnic State University. He was also the dean of the graduate school and vice provost for research at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
Hooper became a part of the Utah Science Advisory Council in 1995, which reviews advances in science and makes recommendations to the government on the use of science to strengthen Utah's economy, educational system and quality of life.
