French diplomat to speak on cycling at BYU lecture Feb. 25

Paul Fournel, French writer, poet, publisher and diplomat, will be speaking at Brigham Young University’s David M. Kennedy Center for International Studies Thursday, Feb. 25, at 4 p.m. in 238 Herald R. Clark Building.

Fournel is the cultural official at the French Embassy in London. He is also a cyclist and will be speaking about the “Need for the Bike.”

He is a member of the avant-garde writers' group Oulipo, whose members focus on the problems and puzzles of language. Fournel has published many works of fiction and non-fiction, including “Need for the Bike” in 2001 and “Meli-vélo” in 2008. His essays on cycling were published in English in Rouleur magazine.
