Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to speak at BYU Jan. 13

A special university forum featuring former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will be Thursday, Jan. 13, 2011, at 11:05 a.m. in the Marriott Center at Brigham Young University. Her address will be followed by a brief question-and-answer session. The forum is co-sponsored by BYU's Wheatley Institution and David M. Kennedy Center for International Studies.

Her address, “Remarks by Condoleezza Rice,” will provide a sweeping look at global affairs presently as well as during her tenure as Secretary of State and National Security Advisor to President George W. Bush.

Through her perspective, Rice will illuminate the interrelationship of global events and leaders, and she will also share details about her commitment to America’s education system, specifically her interest in expanding nationally nonprofit after-school programs, and the importance of art and music in the school curriculum.

Rice graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Denver and later received a master's degree in political science from Notre Dame University.  She earned her doctorate in political science from the Josef Korbel School of International Studies at the University of Denver in 1981. Prior to joining the Bush administration, she was a professor of political science at Stanford University, serving as Provost from 1993 to 1999. She is currently a member of the faculty at the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

The university will not broadcast or rebroadcast the address to any other locations on or off campus, the internet or the BYU Broadcasting network.
