Federal Judge Thomas B. Griffith featured at BYU Constitution Day forum Sept. 18

Honoring Constitution Day, Federal Judge Thomas B. Griffith will present a Brigham Young University campus forum address, “The Hard Work of Understanding the Constitution,” Tuesday, Sept. 18, at 11:05 a.m. in the Marriott Center.

Admission is free, and the public is welcome to attend. A question-and-answer session will be held following his remarks.

The forum will be broadcast live on the BYU Broadcasting channels and online at byutv.org. Rebroadcast and archive information will be available at byutv.org or speeches.byu.edu.

Griffith was appointed as a federal judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit in 2005. For four years in the late 1990s, he was senate legal counsel, the chief legal officer of the United States Senate. Representing the interests of the Senate in litigation, he also advised the Senate leadership and committees on investigations, including the impeachment trial of President Clinton.

He graduated from BYU in 1978 and from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1985. Serving at BYU as the assistant to the president and general counsel, Griffith served his alma mater from 2000 until his appointment to the United States Court of Appeals. His work at BYU included creating and leading a coalition of religious colleges and universities that worked to preserve their unique place in American higher education.
