"Evening of Concertos" and "Evening of Arias" at BYU March 7 and 8

The Brigham Young University Philharmonic Orchestra will perform an “Evening of Concertos” Tuesday, March 7, while the Symphony Orchestra will perform an “Evening of Arias” Wednesday, March 8, at 7:30 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall.

Tickets for the Philharmonic Orchestra are $9 or $6 with BYU or student ID. For tickets, call the Fine Arts Ticket Office at (801) 422-4322 or visit performances.byu.edu.

Admission is free for the Symphony Orchestra concert.

The BYU Philharmonic Orchestra will perform along with six students who were selected by instrumental teachers to perform solos in the concert. Soloists include Jason Bergman on the trumpet, Carrie Maxwell on the viola, McKay Harline on the piano, Kandis Taylor on the marimba, Erin Layton on the clarinet and Ben Chan on the violin.

Conducted by Kory Katseanes, the Philharmonic Orchestra concertos will include movements from Hindemith’s “Schwanendreher,” Koppel’s Concerto no. 1 for Marimba and Orchestra and Debussy’s Premier Rhapsody for Clarinet and Orchestra.

“Evening of Arias” will feature the BYU Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Eric Hansen, and winners of BYU’s vocal competitions.

Rachel Cox, Taryn Whipple, Kaila Lifferth, Eric Hanson, Allyson Hansen, Juan Pereira, Deanna Lunt, Suzie Stephensen, Emily Williams and Mo Li will perform arias by Mozart, Verdi, Puccini, Saint-Saens, Dvorak and Bizet.
