"Europe Today" subject for Italian journalist in BYU address March 16

Italian journalist Massimo De Angelis will speak at a lecture titled “Europe Today: Political Crisis or a Crisis of Values?” Wednesday, March 16, at noon in the Harold B. Lee Library Auditorium at Brigham Young University.

De Angelis works on staff for the president of RAI, the Italian state-owned public service broadcaster, and is the director of the “New Culture of Machines,” a trimester publication produced by RAI’s Foreign Affairs Office. Since 2000, De Angelis has been in charge of the cultural activities of the Liberal Foundation and has worked as an editorial writer for the newspaper, L’Avvenire.

Previously he was editor-in-chief and then vice director of Liberal, the magazine he helped found in 1995 when he left the Partito Democratico della Sinistra (Pds), the Italian political party founded in 1991 after the Partito Comunista Italiano (Pci) was dissolved. Since 1987, De Angelis had been spokesman for Achille Occhetto, vice secretary and then general secretary of the Pci and then of the Pds.

A native of Rome, he received a degree in philosophy and has been a professional journalist since 1983.

This lecture is hosted by the David M. Kennedy Center for International Studies and will be archived at kennedy.byu.edu/archive. For more information, contact Lee Simons at (801) 422-2652 or lee_simons@byu.edu
