Elder Robert C. Oaks will deliver BYU devotional address March 21

Elder Robert C. Oaks of the Presidency of the Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will speak Tuesday, March 21, at 11:05 a.m. in the Marriott Center for a Brigham Young University devotional.

Live broadcasts will be available on KBYU-TV (Channel 11), BYU-Television, KBYU-FM (89.1), BYU-Radio and byubroadcasting.org, as well as on campus in the Joseph Smith Building Auditorium and the Varsity Theater in the Wilkinson Student Center. Elder Oaks was sustained as a member of the Presidency of the Seventy in October 2004, and he was sustained a member of the Second Quorum of the Seventy in April 2000. As a member of the Second Quorum, Elder Oaks served as a counselor and as president of the Africa Southeast Area.

A retired General from the U.S. Air Force, Elder Oaks received the Distinguished Flying Cross for his Vietnam service, and two Distinguished Service medals. He has also received the BYU Alumni Achievement Award and the U.S. Air Force Academy Alumni Association Distinguished Graduate Award.

He graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1959 and, after pilot training, flew combat missions in Vietnam. He also attended the U.S. Naval War College, and in 1967 received a master of business administration degree in personnel management from Ohio State University.

He has also served as a Pentagon staff member, commander of the U.S. Air Forces Europe and commander of allied NATO air forces in Naples, Italy. After retiring from the military, Elder Oaks became the senior vice president of operations at US Airways.
