Elder John A. Harris at International Lecture Series June 25

Elder John A. Harris, Authority Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for the Utah South Area, will be the initial speaker for the International Forum Summer Series at Brigham Young University.

The lecture, "Greater Opportunities in a Smaller World," will take place at noon on Wednesday, June 25, in 238 Herald R. Clark Building.

"This should be an exciting lecture for students, and a good way to start things off during summer term," said Cory Leonard, assistant director of the David M. Kennedy Center for International Studies.

After completing a master's degree in engineering from BYU, Elder Harris was invited to organize Church education programs, including seminaries and institutes, in Bolivia, Ecuador, and Peru.

When that assignment ended, Elder Harris was called as president of the Argentina Buenos Aires North mission. In 1997, he was called as an Area Authority Seventy.

Elder Harris has also worked in the private sector for IBM and other telecommunications companies in the United States and abroad.

Most recently, he worked as a diplomat for the United States, in both Mexico and Chile. In July 2003, he will begin work in yet another country, serving as Minister Counselor for Commercial Affairs in Brazil.

The International Forum Series, sponsored by the Kennedy Center, provides a valuable opportunity for students and teachers to participate in an international dialogue on current events.

Lecturers include ambassadors, foreign dignitaries, international experts, visiting and local professors, and other global figures, all of whom share unique insights and expertise.

This lecture will be webcast live. Those interested in finding out more about the International Forum Series will find archived lectures and a calendar of upcoming speakers on the Kennedy Center web site at http://kennedy.byu.edu/events.
