Education in Zion exhibit event April 8 focuses on LDS hymns

The Education in Zion Gallery at Brigham Young University will hold a Family Home Evening focused on the stories behind some popular hymns of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Monday, April 8, at 6, 7 and 8 p.m.

“This FHE is unique because we get to read the history that comes from the hymns and a lot of these stories are also connected to Church history,” said Gallery Educator Lucy Lu. “The history is told through the music, and I love the spirit that comes from singing hymns.”

The program will include a brief history of the LDS hymnbook and the stories behind the hymns “Abide with me,” “Lead Kindly light” and “Come, Come Ye Saints.” After hearing the history and stories, those in attendance will sing the hymns together.

The Education in Zion Gallery is located in the Joseph F. Smith Building west of the Harold B. Lee Library. The gallery documents the rich history and heritage of education in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Monday and Wednesday nights the gallery stays open until 9 p.m. Saturday hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
